Love and Unity?

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. (Jude 3)

The purpose of the National Council of Churches is to “manifest ever more fully the unity of the church...” claimed the Reverend Bob Edgar, general secretary of the NCC in this news article. However, it came as no surprise that with out missing a beat he said “My full-time task is to attack fear, fundamentalism, and Fox News...”

Hmm, how is this attitude manifesting unity?

Can you feel the love?

Stay salty,
Brother John

  • I don't feel the love.

What do fundamentalism and Fox News have to do with eachother? Funny thing is, the audience knew exactly what it meant ... and so do we.

    Conservatives!

I still don't see why he lumps fear in there. Fox News isn't scary. CNN are the ones that always seem so serious.

Isn't it Al Gore that is trying to scare everyone with his talk of a hot planet? Is he a fundamentalist or a Fox News guy?

Fundamentalism - fear? Hmmm... It makes me want to say:
"You're not afraid of the Bible are you?"

  • In general things coming from the liberal Protestant mainstream are scarely worthy of comment.

  • Hi Rose,
Lost men don the apparel of saints yet inward they are ravenous wolves. Their hatred and fear of God and His righteousness is not usually so blatant, normally it seems compassionate calling wrong right and right wrong. For example this man leaves room and endorses flagrant and openly “gay” relationships. This may seem compassionate to the undiscerning and worldly minded, but it is vicious. This type of approval only confirms them in a life style that is physically, socially, and spiritually harmful, in fact it is deadly on all of these levels.

    Thanks for your comment,

  • Hi Matthew,
That is one example of why I am a separatist and hold rather strongly to the biblical doctrine of the local church, and saved church membership.

    Thanks for your comment brother,

  • Love means many things to many people. Seemingly, to Reverend Bob Edgar, it means nothing.

  • Seems like an apt illustration of the truth of the Word of God. Scoffers in the last days. I've often wondered what it will be like for folk like the reverend when they stand before God, having devoted their lives to opposing what He endorses, (not that He fully endorses Fox News!) & endorsing what He opposes. I know it will be bad enough for me at the Bema, but I have thought about fellows like him at the Great White Throne. But of course, I'm just giving him more work to do, to fight all that fear & fundamentalism that I'm spreading around!

  • Hi David,
It's nice of you to visit here. The National Council of Churches (NCC), formerly NCCC apparently dropped Christ from there name. In all their literature the gospel itself is sparse if at all to be seen. Sure they want to redeem humanity through social action, but that is man centered. They do have compassion for the poor but it is to meet physical needs only. Some of my closest relatives are involved in all levels of the humanistic ecumenical movement. It is very sad for me.

Thanks for your comment. Visit again sometime.
