The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge

Proverbs 1:1-7

1The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

2To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

3To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

4To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

5A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

6To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

7The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

I wish we could all grow in the wisdom of Solomon.

Keep growing,
Brother John

  • John,

    In some ways you've grown in that wisdom -- but your life is not falling into the trap that Solomon fell into, with his heart being captivated by other women and their gods.

    I too want wisdom -- and the desire from God and the power from God to do what he shows me to do.

    I like your entry and the comments here.

  • John,

    I meant to say in a lot of ways you've grown in that wisdom...

  • Hi Earl,

    There are many worldly trappings and we can also learn from Solomon that these too are like meaningless soap bubbles. When we meet one of our own desires there are ten more that follow. When we peruse those ten we discover a hundred more. To be self disciplined is of great gain.

    Thanks for your thoughts.
